About YIMBY Alliance
YIMBY Alliance is the UK’s leading pro-housing campaign group, campaigning for policies to end the housing crisis and make housing more affordable by building more homes. We advocate for a better planning system to deliver more homes in areas where they are most acutely needed. We’ve built up a reputation in Westminster for actionable policy ideas that are taken up by the Government. We’re looking to expand our output and impact.
About the role
We’re hiring a Policy Officer to support our work on housing policy, planning reform, and affordability. This role combines rigorous research with real-world impact: you’ll be helping shape the narrative and the policy agenda for solving the housing crisis.
This is a great opportunity for someone early in their policy career who wants to gain high-level exposure to debates in government, civil society, and the media — while doing critical work to improve people’s lives.
We value a diverse workplace and strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct research on UK housing and planning policy and housing affordability.
- Analyse data and trends to support YIMBY Alliance’s advocacy work.
- Map and engage with key stakeholders, including policymakers, housing groups, and local government.
- Prepare reports, briefings, and policy recommendations for internal and external use.
- Write and commission pieces for the YIMBY Alliance blog & newsletter.
- Support the organisation of events, roundtables, and discussions to promote housing solutions.
- Help create content for social media and digital campaigns.
Your role will include helping with other aspects of campaign organisation, logistics and administration as necessary, including attending conferences and events around the UK.
Person specification
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about solving the housing crisis and believes that building more homes, especially in unaffordable areas, is the key to improving affordability
- Knowledgeable about UK centre-left politics, trade unions, and/or related policy areas (e.g. poverty, environmentalism, infrastructure)
- An excellent written and verbal communication
- Organised, proactive and capable of working independently in a small, fast-moving organisation
- Keen to learn about the UK planning system – no need to be an expert on day one
- Confident in engaging with stakeholders from councillors to volunteers.
Desirable experience
- Policy or research work
- Experience analysing data and statistics to produce reports and visualisations
- Previous experience with UK housing policy or planning
